At the beginning of 2000 years nobody could think that
industrial pig-breeding in Russia will become strategically important and
intensively developing branch. The country seriously depended on import, the
livestock complexes constructed in the Soviet years became outdated and didn't
sustain the competition, and the African plague of pigs which has got from the
Caucasus has nearly killed the last hopes. But the branch has revived! Today
across all Russia tens of the large pig-breeding enterprises are under
construction, the country began to produce about 3 million tons of pork
annually and already seriously thinks of export. The understanding of
importance of veterinary providing which functions were undertaken by the
Federal center of health protection of animals subordinated to Rosselkhoznadzor
became a strong basis for such grandiose jump forward. Today the institute
conducts work with livestock complexes from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok:
diagnoses the widest range of diseases of pigs, makes effective, immunogene
biological products against dangerous viruses, investigates a genome of the
African plague of pigs. Work of scientists and specialists of the center allows
not only to localize the single outbreaks of diseases, but also to keep
epizootic wellbeing in the territory of all country.
